Tyler Dow Bryant is one hot Texas teen. He has worked
with the likes of Paul Simon, Edie Brickell, Chris
Duarte,
Brent Rowan, Albert Lee, Steve Lukather, Don and Donnie
Nelson, Sean Neff, Wes Jeans, Alan Haynes, Dickey Betts, and
many more. At the age of 15, Tyler got his first endorsement
with Ernie Ball/Music Man. On May 5, 2007, Steven and
Michael Johnson presented Tyler with the Robert Johnson
Blues Foundation's New Generation Award, naming him the most
promising blues artist of 2007. Tyler, who is influenced by
the sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Alan Haynes, Stevie Ray Vaughn,
Muddy Waters, B. B. King and other blues legends, has made
quite a name for himself. Check it out for yourself at his
website. 12/19/07

HONEYDRIPPER
hits the sweet spot with deep blues.
'Honeydripper,- the
acclaimed new film written,
directed
and edited by John Sayles, revisits the genesis of rock 'n'
roll - namely '50s rural blues from the Deep South. The
story depicts a second chance for an aging bluesman, the
kickoff to a young guitar turk's career and the rise of rock
'n' roll itself. Opening in New York and Los Angeles
December 28 and nationally in January and February, the
soundtrack to this blues music-themed period film includes
new songs by Keb' Mo', Mable John and guitar phenom Gary
Clark, Jr., who appears in the film as well. The album also
contains a new song by the incomparable Ruth Brown, the last
recorded before her death in 2006. Rhino Records will
release the soundtrack February 5, which will be available
in stores and online at

SOMA fm Looking for a eclectic, irreverent holiday
broadcast? Well one of my favorite online stations is warmed
up for the holidays. They also have some tasty groove and
beat stations that I like to use as background sounds to
practice to. Xmas is Frisco may not be suitable for all ages
so fuck off kids.

Girl Guitar. That's Lou Reimuller (the creator), playing

that he transformed into a guitar. Ok, that's just weird.

Wells, United Kingdom) is best known as the original singer
and songwriter of The Pogues, and is considered one of the
most important and poetic Irish songwriters of the last
thirty years, often echoing his influences such as Irish

So yesterday we had the 28 most
recognized guitars and police today unearthed the bodies of
fifty
guitars
buried under a vacant flat in East London. Sources close to
police suggest the guitars were victims of homemade relic
jobs gone bad, but an official statement from authorities is
yet to be made. Today the 50 Ugliest Guitars of 2007. c/o

A bumbling private
eye was caught with his pants down - literally - when he
broke into Soundgarden
frontman Chris Cornell's Beverly Hills pad and used his
bathroom. The gumshoe had been hired by Cornell's bitter
ex-wife, Susan Silver, to serve the rocker with papers
stating that she was suing her ex over the ownership of 15
guitars. But when P.I. Matthew Turner showed up at the
house, Cornell wasn't home and he let himself in. Too bad it
was all caught on camera. In 2004 Cornell "shocked" Silver
with divorce papers and now the bitch won't give him his
guitars back. c/o

I remember waking
one morning in the early 90's and my favorite metal station
had turned to Mexican
music. Resurrected as an internet only radio station it
still plays some of my favorite songs of all time. While the
radio station is not really new I wanted to pass the link
along to any heavy metal fans who may not be aware that the
"pure rock" of KNAC still exists. Ahh... L.A. in the late
80's and early 90's. Big hair, tight jeans and that's just
what the guys were wearing.

Photoshopped
Guitars
At Freaking News: Guitars pictures. Photoshop any
guitars any way you wish.
Some examples are: designing new guitars,
changing their shape or size, merging guitars with other
objects or animals, adding guitars to the old paintings,
etc. Some cool stuff.

Mr. Blackbird Rider. The guitar is
made of carbon fiber, which is generally used as the
structural skin of the
most advanced planes, bikes, race cars and
even spaceships. They say they chose it because it sounds
great, is bomb-proof and allows them to break out of the
two-dimensional constraints of designing out of wood. Bomb
proof? Just in case a bunch of fuckin' crazy terrorists want
to blow my axe to bits? Kind of funky lookin'. I prefer this
one instead.

Feel good story of
the day as Ohio rocker is reunited with his 2 bass guitars.
Gerard Dominick is hard to miss — a barrel-chested 6-foot-4,
285-pounder with a brooding gaze and a Fu Manchu beard. He
looks like a professional wrestler, and he has an oversize,
outgoing personality to match. When he met the guy who stole
his guitars, he said. ''I really wanted to play Mr. Potato
Head with him for a few minutes,'' he admitted, ''removing
body parts and replacing them in hilarious locations.''
Police took over and a public outpouring of support
including more than 60 e-mails from musicians he knows and
musicians he's never met, a community of people who were
willing to help with loaned gear, calls to music stores —
whatever he needed.
Read the whole story here. Remember kids DO NOT leave
shit in your van overnight!

iCoustic Guitar
Enables One Man Jam Band. This is a cool accessory for your
acoustic guitar. The iCoustic
guitars
are created using the smaller travel models from various big
name guitar manufacturers like Taylor, Martin, and Yamaha.
The built-in self-amplification switch amps up the guitar's
resonance, so it sounds like a full-sized model. What really
makes the axe Gearlog-worthy, however, is the "MP3 Mode,"
which let's users dock their DAPs on the iCoustic, which
serves as speaker, making for on-the-fly multi-tracking, so
you can bust out wicked solos on every song from the
Supertramp back catalog that you have stored in your iPod.
You can also input various effects and recording devices
directly into the iCoustic.
The current selection of guitars runs from $499 to $749,
depending on the manufacturer of the base guitar. All models
are powered by a single nine-volt.
Check it out here.

This has got to be
one of my favorite casemods in a while. Guitar geek
Ben Lewry had an old laptop
lying around and decided to see if he could cram
it inside of the body of an electric guitar. The end result
is a slick, interactive music device called the LCDetar.
Lewry configured a music visualizer on the screen of the
computer which displays a kaleidoscope of patterns as he
rocks out on the guitar. More here

A Glasgow resident
recently paid the equivalent of $170,000 for a pair of
tickets—face value $510—to Led Zeppelin’s December 10 London reunion
show, but another U.K. rock fan got a considerably better
bargain.
While John Lydon was recently grousing, “Do you know how
broke the Pistols were? Until that ’96 reunion tour, we
never got a pay-off at all. We never saw a penny.”
British music sources reported two admissions to this week’s
Sex Pistols’ show in Glasgow sold via eBay for precisely
that amount: one pence each. —Jerry McCulley c/o

Custom Shop Zakk Wylde Flying V
Bullseye guitar. Only 100 of these beauties are being made
at the Gibson Custom Shop. Designed after Zakk's own Flying
V Custom. Comes with a signed certificate from Zakk himself.
Grab this bitch while it lasts. Street price is said to be
running around $4500, so bring your checkbook. What gets me
is it looks like a regular V nothing like the photo at left
that looks to be some kind of SG + V highbred. I like the
Floyd Rose cause nothing is more fun than jerkin' on your
whammy. Not up on the Gibson site yet so stay tuned.

Former lead singer of
CREED, Scott Stapp, loves Gibson guitars and is running his
own promotion to give away one of his Les Pauls. Visit

fugly face in the spotlight. Pray for this guy...wait that
won't help... even God hates Creed.

Oh Johnny Winter
what has become of you? Saw him at a show in Arroyo Grande a
couple months ago
and what a disappointment. Gone was most of the
blistering fretwork from days long ago he almost seemed to
be playing rhythm all night long. They drag his ragged
carcass out to the edge of the stage and plop his wrinkly,
old, white body into a fuckin' lawn chair. He pulls out some
deformed headless flying V type of axe that's buzzing like a
hive of killer bees and he stares at his fingers all night
long. Nothing like the mad man of Winterland I remember from
my youth. The crowd was so quiet I thought I was at the
opera. I actually got chastised by some mother fucker for
making too much noise. TO MUCH NOISE? It's a concert
asshole. Not to bust the balls of a Texas legend. But his
day, sadly, has passed and I'll cherish my "Second
Winter" album and dream of days gone by. 11/21/07

Curt Mangan Strings
may not be for everyone, but they are perfect for those
tired of mass-marketed products
and manufacturing mediocrity. Tone is a guitar
player's passion and Curt knows all about it. He worked for
Ernie Ball before starting his own company and he doesn't
scrimp on materials or take shortcuts. My personal
experience is with him is I loved the extra, extra heavy
bottom on the sets of Boomers I played (.010 .013 .017 .036
.052 .060) but the quality was shit and they didn't last for
2 weeks. I talked to Curt and he made the same set for me
but the quality was above and beyond anything I expected.
Try a set you won't be disappointed.
