Masters Guitar
Solos Using Guitar Backing Tracks. Here's a trick I use as
practicing scales is boring to me and the band only meets up
once a week or so. A backing track makes practice fun while
honing your
skills
at the same time. Another factor that is extremely important
in learning to master guitar solos is the fine art of
improvisation. Backing tracks for guitarists provide the
student with a live band to back them up while they piece
together a blazing hot solo right there on the spot. This
also allows you to place a solo anywhere in the song, or to
improvise for the full length of the guitar backing tracks.
These backing tracks make improvisation practice a whole lot
more productive and fun. Here are a couple I use along with
band recordings.

Keith Richards May
'Start Up' Guitar Museum.
Immortal Rolling Stones axeman Keith Richards, fresh off the
premiere of Martin Scorcese's acclaimed new
Stones
doc, Shine A Light, is only now starting to realize that
being in possession of 3,000-plus guitars does not guarantee
much time to play them all. The 64-year-old legend is
mulling over the idea of opening a museum to display them or
possibly giving some away as gifts, which is how many were
given to him in the first place. It was apparently a
humbling realization for the enduring, who said, poignantly,
"I don't know what I've done to deserve that. I've been one
of the biggest assholes in the world!"
Richards estimates that maybe only 10 of his guitars have
even been played, an undeserving neglect for what he
describes as an "incredible collection of beautiful
instruments."
I'll take a couple.

There was a worrisome moment, when Chuck Berry

and still spry, launched into a jaunty “Roll Over Beethoven”

CRAZY, a Film
Inspired by the Life of Guitar Legend Hank Garland ... Ray
Scherr and guitar hero Steve Vai (who also performs a cameo
as Hank Williams) are the film's Executive Producers under
the Favored Nations Films mantle. CRAZY chronicles Hank
Garland's rise to fame in the Nashville music scene, from
playing on hits for icons including Elvis Presley, Patsy
Cline
and Roy Orbison through his brief but influential solo
career as a visionary jazz artist. Garland's flame-out was
as spectacular as his success. In 1961, a near-fatal car
accident, his tempestuous marriage and personal life and
repeated clashes with the "Nashville Mob," who then
controlled the country music establishment, led to a series
of electro-shock treatments that tragically ended his
playing career.

Legendary
musician Charlie Daniels has taken issue with how his famed
tune Devil Went Down To Georgia is portrayed in Guitar Hero
III, after his recent exposure to the game.
"The song ... is supposed to be a lighthearted novelty about
a fiddling contest between a country boy and the devil and
the devil always loses," Daniels wrote in a recent blog
post. "That is not the case with the Guitar Hero version
which comes complete with a horned, guitar-playing devil who
battles the player and very often wins."
The song is no longer under Daniels' control; apparently the
rights to the tune were transferred to a former business
partner many years back.

The most
significant discovery in Oscar Todkopf's career was entirely
serendipitous. Last April, the Hindenburg University
paleontologist was hiking in Germany's Neander Valley when
he tripped over something on a trail. Some quick digging
exposed the obstacle as the tip of a mastodon tusk. But it
wasn't until a few weeks later when the entire tusk was
unearthed and dated that Todkopf realized the magnitude of
his find. The tusk, he believes, was a Neanderthal musical
instrument.

Bon Jovi’s Richie
Sambora Arrested for DUI.
Richie Sambora landed in the Laguna Beach pokey late Tuesday
night after police pulled him over for driving erratically
in his black Hummer. Sambora, who lately has been more known
for his role in a Denise Richards-Heather Locklear love
triangle, failed multiple field sobriety tests. The arrest
also provides proof that only tools drive Hummers and listen
to Bon Jovi.

Techeblog
has a nice roundup of old game consoles modded into working
guitars. The Sega Genesis axe takes the cake, especially for
the look of quiet pride on the maker's face as he proffers
it to the camera.

If you've ever had
the opportunity to see Zappa or Steve Vai than this amazing
musician will be familiar
to
you. I saw him with both bands and I'll tell you anybody
that can stay note for note with a Vai solo has a tip of my
"hat". Saw him recently on the G3 tour and got blown away,
again. Learn more about this amazing musician in this
interview.
Don't you link that yellow snow.

The premiere of
Gibson's Robot Guitar took place in select music stores on
December 7, 2007. Four
thousand
limited edition Les Paul Robot Guitars sold like hot cakes
and it looks like the collaboration between Gibson and Chris
Adams, the German inventor of the self-tuning innovation,
will continue into the foreseeable future. We all saw it,
heard the fluff and here is an interview with the German cat
that actually invented it.
